about

The Piyyut (sacred poem) ‘Achot Ketana’ that was written by Abraham Ḥazzan of Gerona in the 13th century. this text is sung by sephardi communities from the west and the east wings, just before the beginning of the new Hebrew year at Rosh Hashanah's eve.
"Achot Ketana" means little sister in Hebrew and the term is a metaphor for the people of Israel who are scattered around the globe, suffering yet believing the salvation (geula) by the all mighty is yet to come. The final verse of the text bears the famous saying, may a new year with its blessings start!
I have composed my own variation of this Piyyut inspired by my Jewish-Gibraltarian heritage/ there is a unique sound of the middle eastern violin within this version echoing the sense of longing that this beautiful text evoke.
